Hello adventurers! For many of you, traveling is all about living in the moment: enjoying the food, the drinks, and the experiences without overthinking. But let’s be real: if you’re on the road for a while and care about your health, maintaining your energy and staying in shape does require a bit of routine and balance. The good news? Staying fit while traveling doesn’t mean sacrificing the fun!
I've been on the road for over two years, and I’m excited to share all my tips to help you maintain your health and fitness during your trips. With these hacks, you’ll have no excuses anymore, let’s get moving!
Simple Fitness Routines for Travelers
Bodyweight Workouts
Bodyweight workouts are your best friends on the road—they don’t require any equipment, and you can do them almost anywhere. All you need is yourself, a bit of space, and some motivation! They’re perfect for maintaining your strength, flexibility, and overall fitness while traveling.
One of my favorite hacks is using YouTube workout videos. Just search for what you’re in the mood for, like "full-body workout at home" or "leg workout at home," and you’ll find countless videos where you can follow along with the trainer. You can also use apps like Nike Training Club or FitOn for guided bodyweight workouts you can do offline. It’s a fun and structured way to move your body and keep your muscles engaged.
Here are a few go-to bodyweight exercises to get you started:
Squats: Great for your legs and glutes.
Push-ups: A classic move to strengthen your upper body.
Planks: Engage your core with this simple but effective exercise.
Lunges: Perfect for balance and lower-body strength.
Burpees: A full-body burner that’s sure to get your heart rate up.
I love to create circuits, for example, choose 4–5 exercises, perform each for 30–60 seconds, and repeat the circuit 3–4 times. I use the app TimerPlus to generate customized timer and addapt the workout as I want when I do it on my own.
If you’re short on time, a 10-minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) session can work wonders!

Running or Jogging: Lace up your sneakers and explore your surroundings on foot. Whether you’re running along a beach or jogging through a park, it’s a fantastic way to stay fit and see the sights. I personnaly use these ones, perfect for any type of activities!
Hiking: If you’re somewhere with trails or mountains, hiking is an amazing cardio workout disguised as an adventure. Bonus points if the view is breathtaking!
Jump Rope: If you have space in your bag, bring a jump rope. It’s lightweight, compact, and gives you a killer cardio workout in just a few minutes. I love this one. It’s perfect for staying active when you don’t have time for a full session.
If you’re not a fan of traditional cardio, just get moving however you can. Dance in your room, swim if there’s water nearby, or even do a brisk walking tour of the area. The key is to keep your heart rate up and have fun while you’re at it!

I personnaly use these ones, I love to have the option to choose different strenght of resistance.
Portable Yoga Mats: A lot of hotels or Airbnbs might not have yoga mats, but a lightweight travel mat folds up easily and takes up barely any space. You can use it for yoga, stretching, or even bodyweight workouts. There’s no excuse for not fitting in a quick session!
TRX Straps: If you’re really into strength training and want something a bit more advanced, TRX straps are a game-changer. They’re a little bulkier than resistance bands, but they’re still light and easy to pack. Plus, you can set them up anywhere, on a door or a sturdy tree, and get a full-body workout.
Jump Rope: As I mentioned earlier, this one’s a great cardio option, and it takes up almost no space. You can get an awesome heart-pumping workout in just a few minutes, and it’s perfect for staying active when you don’t have time for a full session.
Compact Dumbbells or Kettlebells: If you’re staying in one place for a longer period and want something a bit more challenging, consider packing a pair of travel-sized dumbbells or kettlebells. They’re not as easy to carry, but if you’re committed to strength training, they’re definitely worth it.
